Relax in Camp Wood, Texas, on the Nueces River in the most luxurious accommodations in the Nueces Canyon.
Camp Wood sprang to life in 1921 when a railroad spur was built from Uvalde to haul cedar harvested from many thousands of cedar-covered land in the Nueces Canyon. The railroad operated for two decades. In the early part of the twentieth century many railroad spurs were built throughout America to take advantage of resources in remote areas. Arrowhead Lodging on the Nueces, and the train motif, is our way of remembering this area’s rich history.
For thousands years people have visited the site of Arrowhead Lodging. First pre-historic people, then came Native Americans followed by Spanish missionaries, the U.S. Calvary, settlers, and today people who want to escape crowded cities.
Old Faithful Creek, which runs on the eastern edge of the Arrowhead property, and the Nueces River, which runs on the western edge, have always attracted people because of plentiful clear water and abundant game.
Arrowhead Lodging property is only one-quarter mile north of the Camp Wood city limits, yet it provides a true natural setting whether your interests are birding, fishing, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, searching for artifacts, or simply relaxing. There are two comfortable, air conditioned houses, and each has a fully equipped kitchen. The larger house has sleeping accommodations for eight or more while the cottage can sleep six. The large house has an out door living area, and the cottage has a large covered deck for your out door pleasure. Dishes and linens are provided with each house. A kennel is provided for your family pet.
Additional lodging is provided in our five Deluxe Cabins. The “blue hole”, formed where Old Faithful Creek empties into the Nueces, provides good recreation water, even in times of drought. Each spacious Deluxe Cabin comes complete with big-screen TV, well equipped kitchen, two queen-sized beds, covered deck, and patio with bar-b-q grill.
For those visitors who prefer birding and other nature activities Arrowhead Lodging has a library with numerous books on birding, mammals, reptiles, and plants as well as area history. Over 200 varieties of birds including the golden cheek warbler and black cap vireo visit the area every year.
